RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Vanguard men's track and field team had six athletes post top-10 all-time performances over three events to highlight efforts at the Riverside CC Early Bird on Saturday.
Four distance runners found spots in the VU record book in the two mile. Senior Evan Hernandez landed on the No. 2 spot with a time of 9:45.37. Hernandez finished fourth in the event. Sophomore Jesse O'Campo turned in a 9:56.72 for No. 4 all-time, followed right behind by Ommar Arroyo in 9:58.30. Arroyo's performance ranks him No. 5 in VU annals. Rounding out the list of all-time performances in that event was Anthony Kennen, who clocked 10:17.11 for seventh.
In the 300 meter dash, freshman Donovan Ralls displayed his talent with the third-best time in school history at 35.60 seconds. Teammate Jonathan Krynicki, who is the school record holder in 34.56, finished third in the race at 35.47 to just nip Ralls at the finish line.
Isaiah Feaver moved up from a tie for ninth to fourth in the 600 meters, improving on his previous career-best of 1:24.75 to 1:22.80. He logged the one first place finish for the Lions in the Inland Empire, while Cooper Anderson was second in 1:25.28.
Freshman Zachary Velasco placed second in the high jump with a top clearance of 6-00.75 (1.85m).
In the one mile run, Hernandez posted a 4:35.78 for fourth place.
The 4x400 relay team of Feaver, Ralls, Blake Rodriguez and Krynicki came in second with a time of 3:22.13.
