LONG BEAC, Calif. -- Making her first career start against Hawaii Hilo in net, and not giving up the starting job since,
Josselyne Navarrete was rewarded for her 1-0-1 performance by Pacific West Conference, who named her the Defender of the Week award today. It is her first weekly award and the second time a goalie has been named the Defender of the Week for VU after
Jordin Holmquist-Wilder got a nod last season.
Navarrete made six stops against Westmont on Wednesday to earn her second shutout in a row after blanking APU two Saturdays ago. She had to make a couple of good stops along with a few routine ones against WC, as the VU defense kept the Warriors in check for large chunks of the contest. The keeper then made five stops against Biola on Saturday in a 0-0 draw to pick up her third career shutout. She made good stops, especially in the first half, as the Eagles could not get much going in the second period. Navarrete and the Blue and Gold have not given up a goal since the Point Loma game and want to continue that trend with games against Dominican and Menlo to finish out the season this week.
