LONG BEACH, Calif. -- After the first tournament victory in Vanguard men's golf history, the team has been honored as the Pacific West Conference Team of the Week, the second time in program history. In addition to that,
Fisher Ransom and
Alexander Elia were named the Co-Men's Golfers of the Week. Ransom picks up his second nod in his first season here at VU, while Elia, an All-PacWest Golfer from last year, gets his first weekly award.
The Blue and Gold tallied the lowest team score in program history for a strict 36-hole tournament with 569 strokes, three shots better than last year's HPU Shark Shootout at 572. VU had finished second six times at a tournament or a match against two other schools, but finally broke through for a win at the TMU Danish Classic, beating Chapman by 12 shots.
Ransom and Elia, who finished within one shot of each other (136, 137), took the top two spots in the record book for tournament performance in a strict 36-hole event. Ransom tallies his first complete victory as a Lion after tying for first but losing in a playoff at the Western Washington Invite. Elia had two top-five finishes last year, with his best being tied for third at the Hanny Stanislaus Invite, and now has his first silver in his collegiate career.
