VU Wins Halted Game 7-1

COSTA MESA -- Vanguard softball made up the rest of a rain halted contest from March against San Diego Christian on Saturday.  The Lions ended up making a split of the delayed doubleheader on the road, winning 7-1.

What Happened?  The first three innings and change were played in Santee, with LeeAnne Miranda getting the start for the Blue and Gold.  She allowed a couple of hits but otherwise limited the Hawks during that span and kept them from scoring.  Meanwhile, the offense jumped into action in the top of the second, with Lexi Rolin taking a leadoff walk.  Tiffany Pope then smacked a single and a bunt advanced each runner one base.  Kaylie Williams tapped a single to score one run and Bianca Morales would cash in two with a single to center, as VU left the frame up 3-0.
Williams put VU up 4-0 in the top of the fourth, as she led off with a home run.  Emma Noble then slashed a single to left and soon got to second on a passed ball.  Morales drove her home with a single, putting Vanguard ahead 5-0, although she was gunned down trying to make the single a double.  The Lions were primed to put more runs on the board but the rain picked up and both teams would soon take to their vehicles for the journey home.
Fast-forward to April 1 and VU resumed the game with a Mackenzie Hofmann double, but she would be left on base, as SDCC pitcher Ada Neu got three outs to end the inning.
The Hawks then pegged a run on Miranda, as a two-out triple was brought home on a single, but Miranda got a ground out to end the frame.
With the fifth inning quiet for both sides, the Lions returned to the scoreboard in the top of the sixth.  Both Noble and Hofmann collected singles and a ground out by Marissa Gurrola pushed both runners to second and third.  Karly Colenzo then bashed a double to the right-center gap to score both runners, but she was then retired trying to make the double into a triple.
Miranda took the lead she had and gave up a hit in the bottom of the sixth and seventh but otherwise held SDCC off the stat sheet, securing a 7-1 victory.

The Lions scored seven runs on 14 hits, had one error, and nine runners left on base.  SDCC had one run on six hits, one error, and seven runners left on base.  Miranda goes to 3-1 on the season and struck out four over her seven innings of work.  Kaitlyn Bailey took the loss and drops to 2-4.  Hofmann led the squad by going 3-for-4, with Morales, Noble, Williams, and Chaves each posting two hits.  Morales had three RBI and Colenzo and Williams each had two.
