ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Vanguard dance team took part in the UDA National Championships Saturday in the open pom division. The field of 20 teams featured a variety of colleges from across the country and Vanguard finished 13th with a score of 92.8667.
St. Cloud State University had the top score and will lead the other nine teams into the finals tomorrow. Carson-Newman University claimed the last spot in the finale with a 97.0167. Molloy University was 11th with a 95.2667 and Minnesota State University Moorhead was 12th with a 94.0667. Roger Williams University was 14th, posting a 90.4.
The scores reflect not only the performance aspect but 15 points for a spirit video sent to the judges prior to the event. Vanguard was awarded all 15 points for its submission.
The Lions will next compete with its NAIA routine against Hope International on Thursday, January 26, at HIU. The routines will take place at the halftime of each basketball game between the Royals and OUAZ, which will start at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
