CHINO HILLS, Calif. – The Lions took to Los Serranos Golf Course on Friday morning to battle NCAA Division III opponent Chapman University for the first of two matches this season. Vanguard had gone 2-0 in their previous two head-to-head matches, but the Panthers walked off the greens with a 338 to 345victory. Malia Kiger shot a team low of 79 across 18 holes, with par set 72 strokes.
The event was hosted on the North Course, which is one of two John Duncan championship designs to be awarded four stars by Golf Digest. The 6,691 yard course is one of the oldest courses in California and the back nine is especially hard with some holes traversing ravines.
Second on the Lions was Alyse Padilla who ended the round with an 81, followed by Makenzie Miller at 83. Kylie Takata rounded out the countable scores for the Lions with a 91 which gave the Lions a total of 345 strokes. Belle Morales was the fifth competitor for the Blue and Gold, shooting a 110.
"The team played well, grinding well through a long week of rainy, cold weather," Head Coach Jeff Anderson said. "We are moving in the right directions and this gives us insight into the things we need to work on over the next few weeks before our next match."
Next Match: Monday, March 4th against Chapman University at Tustin Ranch Golf Club starting at 11:00 a.m.
