Degroot comes to the Lions with professional playing experience at Bayamon De Puerto Rico from 2010-2011 and coaching knowledge from stops at Yale University (2011-12) where they won the Ivy League Championship under the direction of head coach Erin Appleman, and A4 Volleyball Club where she is still coaching in addition to her time spent on the Vanguard campus.

Back in her playing days, she was an NCAA Division I athlete at the University of San Diego under head coach Brent Hillard. During her time in San Diego her teams won four West Coast Conference Championships (2006, 2007, 2008, 2010). She was recognized as an All-American in 2008 and was the West Coast Conference Player of the Year in the same year. Three times during her career she was voted to the All-West Coast Conference First Team. She is a two-time San Diego Hall of Champions Amateur Player of the Year and tri-sport high school champion athlete. Additionally, she was the Montana State Class B Player of the Year in both basketball and volleyball.
