The athlete:  Ryan is back for his third season with the Lions and final season of collegiate eligibility…played in 2001 and 2005 for the Lions…has scored two goals in 36 games as a Lion…2000 graduate of Esperanza High School…was an All-League and All-CIF high school player for Coach Kino Oaxaca in the Sunset League…voted EHS’s Best Defensive Player…played club soccer for the Jusa Select Ice…played one year at Santiago Canyon College immediately after high school…was an all-league choice and Defensive Player of the Year…transferred to VU from SCC in 2001…returned in 2005 after a three-year absence…brings a strong defensive presence…physical player…will help lead a veteran defense…can also score when the opportunity arrives…look for Sullivan to provide valuable senior leadership to the Lions in 2006.

The person:  Ryan James was born on January 3, 1982 in La Habra, California…parents are Jim and Diane…has six sisters and one brother…teammates just call him “Sully”…is a Liberal Studies major at Vanguard…sports hero is David Beckham…loves to eat pizza…favorite movie is “Rocky”…loves the color green and the number 11…roots for Manchester United…believes the biggest problem in the world is war…likes the good friendships that have been built on his VU team…has learned that family and friends are the most important thing in life…competing in soccer has taught him about hard work…wants to become a Teacher.

Ryan’s closing thoughts: Vanguard has been a great experience. I have loved every minute of it and I hope that people would remember me as a hard worker.
