The athlete: Mark will complete his collegiate eligibility this fall…came to Vanguard in the spring of 2003 from Cal State San Bernardino and begins his third season at Vanguard…had a very solid junior year as he helped VU win the 2004 GSAC Co-Championship…has played in 38 goals as a Lion…has 11 assists and 13 total points in his two seasons at VUSC…played in all 19 games for the Coyotes in 2002…played four years at Ruben S. Ayala H.S. in Chino Hills, California prior to attending CSUSB…first-team all-league and Most Valuable Player in both his junior and senior years…also played club soccer for the Seahorses…has played soccer for 17 years…is a versatile player who can make VU better all over the field...type of player that makes things happen…was an All-GSAC player in 2003 in his first year with the Lions…look for Babel to finish his career on a strong note.

The person:   Mark was born on April 16, 1983 in Montclair, California. ..son of Michael and Patricia Babel…has one brother and one sister…nickname is “Bone-Saw”…is a Communications major at Vanguard…sports hero is Cobi Joneslikes to eat pizza…favorite color is gold and number is 12…favorite movie is “The Godfather II”…likes to read “War And Peace”…enjoys watching “Seinfeld” on television…roots for Newcastle United…would like to meet Dave McNally…has learned that life is hard…would like to be rich some day.

Mark’s closing thoughts:  There is a great atmosphere at Vanguard.  I hope people will remember that I played hard and kept it real.

Coach Dodge’s comments:  Babel is our strongest leader on and off the field.  He has come very far in his career here at VU I’m sure he will shine his senior year.
