Randy Dodge returned to his alma mater to coach in 2002 and spent 13 seasons as the Director of Soccer over both the men’s and women’s programs. During his time over the Lion women, he amassed a record of 175-55-27 including being ranked as high as No. 1 (2013) during his tenure. As the head coach for the Pride men, they have reached the playoffs 12 times and have had only one losing season. Between September 22nd, 2012 and Sept. 30th, 2013, Dodge and his women did not lose a match (21-straight wins and a tie). He has been named GSAC Coach of the Year eight times: 2004 (men), 2010 (men), 2012 (women), 2016 (women), 2017 (men and women), and 2018 (men and women).
Prior to Vanguard:
Dodge began his coaching career at an early age, while still a student at Vanguard and a member of the Lions' soccer team. Randy also worked his way through the Olympic Development Program (ODP) with different age groups, serving as the head or assistant coach from 1995 to 2005. In addition to his achievements and present positions at the high school and club level, Dodge helped in the development of the University of California Irvine men's soccer program where he served as an assistant coach for three years in the late 1990's.
Club Coaching:
Dodge is a United States Soccer Federation "A" Licensed Coach and has a USSF Youth Lincense, coaching club soccer since 1995. Coaching with the SoCal Blues from 1997-2018, he served as the Technical Director of the ECNL teams and CAP. In 2017, he won the ECNL National Championship with the SoCal Blues '02 team. With 10 state titles, 7 regionals titles, 2007 US Club National Championship and with 18 Surf Cup Championships with the SoCal Blues, he has a long career of success. After winning the 2010 National Championship U17, Dodge was named the Cal South Nike Coach of the Year (2011). In all, he has six club National Championships and was voted the 2012 National Coach of the Year. Additionally, his team captured the 2016 USYSA U19 National Championship. As a club coach, he has placed 160 players into the NCAA Division 1 ranks. Dodge has coached 60 players who has competed on the youth national teams of the United States, Mexico, Trinidad, Jamaica and 18 who have played in the professional ranks including McCall Zerbroni who won the 2016 NWSL Title.
High School Coaching:
He has spent more than 29 years involved with boy's and girl's high school soccer and is currently the Director of Soccer and head coach for both teams at Aliso Niguel High School. Since 1997, his Aliso teams have won 17 League Championships and two State Championships while Dodge has compiled an overall soccer record of 671-237-184 at the high school level including both boy's and girl's results. In 2001, Dodge's team won the girl's Southern Section CIF division one title and he was named the LA Times HS Coach of the Year and the Student Sports Magazine National Coach of the Year. Most recently, Dodge's Aliso team won the 2012 ESPN High School National Championship. Also in 2012, he was recognized as the CIF Coach of the Year and the Orange County Register Coach of the Year. Furthermore, Dodge picked up the NSCAA High School Coach of the Year award in 2013. In all, he has three CIF Titles (G- 2001, G - 2012, B - 2018), being awarded CIF Boy's Coach of the Year for his efforts.Â
Personal:
Randy and Stephanie, a Vanguard alumna of 1994, have four children Chase, Tess, Blair, and Kendra. Dodge graduated from Vanguard University (then Southern California College) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies in 1993, and earned a Master's degree in Education in 1998 from California State University San Bernardino.Â
