Miramontes, who began his coaching tenure as an assistant at Vanguard in 2003, moved into an Associate Head Coach role in the fall of 2006 and picked up some additional responsibilities alongside VU's Director of Soccer.
After joining the coaching staff as an assistant under Randy Dodge, Miramontes helped turn the Lions into a powerhouse in the Golden State Athletic Conference. In 2006, he was promoted to Associate Head Coach of the men’s program. He played a large role in winning six GSAC championships along with helping VU appear in eight NAIA National Tournaments. He has helped to produce many All-GSAC and NAIA All-Americans in his tenure as an assistant.
In his first year as Head Coach, Miramontes won the GSAC Tournament and the team qualified for the NAIA National Tournament.
“I’m here to cultivate and guide these young men into the next phase of their lives," relayed Miramontes. "The wins and losses will come and go. It’s an honor to lead these men into a Christ-like serve-first mentality as they go into the real world."
Miramontes has grown up on the Vanguard field, also formally known as Southern California College. The first of his three brothers came to SCC in 1987 and all three played a huge role in the early years of Southern California College under Dave McLeish. Miramontes followed in their footsteps and arrived to Vanguard in the fall of 1994. He later led his team to the program's first-ever conference championship game, was a two-time captain, and was an all-conference selection during his playing tenure.
Miramontes started his coaching career at his alma mater, Sunny Hills High School, alongside legendary coach Mike Schade for six seasons. As a player at Sunny Hills, he was a two-time all-league selection, an all-county selection, an all-CIF selection, and the MVP of the Freeway League. Returning after college, Miramontes helped coach the program to five league titles and a CIF Finalist finish. He then left to become the head coach at Troy High School for two seasons, where he helped to elevate that program before leaving to become an Assistant Coach at Vanguard.
Following his return to VU, he would also coach at Aliso Niguel High School, where he helped the program capture a CIF D1 Championship, D1 regional Championship, and an ESPN National Championship.
Miramontes also started coaching club soccer for the Pateadores Soccer Club in Mission Viejo. He has been there for 20 seasons and has seen many players go on to play on college teams over the years. As one of the top clubs in the country, he has helped the club win numerous state and national championships. He was also selected to coach the Pateadores PDL team for two seasons and as part of that, he coached numerous D1 athletes from UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, UC Riverside and UCLA.
Miramontes has a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Sports Science from Vanguard University. He also holds a USSF “A” license. He enjoys playing indoor soccer and has worked with autistic children for the last 20 years in the Fullerton School District. Miramontes is married and he and his wife Nanette reside in Fullerton.
