The
athlete: Morgan is a first-year student at Vanguard…2005 graduate of
Capital High School in Boise, Idaho…will redshirt in his first season
with the Lions…played basketball for Coach Ted Hettinga at CHS and was
an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection…helped his team take
fourth at State and become the Academic State Champions…selected to
play in the Idaho All-Star game…also played soccer at CHS…has played
basketball for nine years…left-handed guard…good size and great
"basketball IQ"…can play multiple positions…one of the youngest members
of VU’s LIONS program…could develop into a great future player for the
Lions.
The person: Morgan was born in Portland, Oregon on September 30,
1986…parents are Rich and Donna McGovert…has three sisters…will pursue
a degree in Business Administration at VUSC…sports hero is Lance
Armstrong…likes to eat Puerto Rican food…loves the color blue and the
number 20…likes the movie "Bad Boys II"…enjoyed reading the book "The
Count of Monte Cristo"…is a San Francisco 49er fan…enjoys spending time
in Hawaii…hobbies include snow boarding, wake boarding, water skiing,
and playing beach volleyball…would like to meet Jerry Rice…feels that
the lack of respect is the biggest problem in the world…likes the unity
on his VU team…has learned that life can be hard…playing basketball has
taught him about character and how to respond in tough situations…wants
to become a faithful man of God.
His thoughts: I felt God was leading me to Vanguard. I love the
location, the Christian environment and the great people at VUSC.
Coach Wilson’s Comments: Morgan is a versatile player who has a
strong Christian background and fits in well at Vanguard. He will be a
big part of the future of Vanguard basketball.
