The
athlete: Miguel transferred to Vanguard University from East Los
Angeles College…spent two years at ELAC, playing only last season and
earning Team Co-MVP honors…averaged 14 points and nearly 10 rebounds
per game and was an HM All-League selection as a sophomore…sat out
2003-04 after transferring to AHJC from Palomar Junior College where he
played his first year out of high school…2002 graduate of Bell Gardens
High School…All-League and Team MVP at BGHS…has played basketball since
junior high…good strong build…will add muscle and height in the paint
for the Lions but still athletic enough to play three positions if
needed…experienced player…regarded as one of VU’s top recruits…can
shoot, rebound, and defend…look for Miguel to make an immediate impact
at Vanguard.
The person: Miguel was born on July 23, 1984 to his parents Raul and
Gloria…has three siblings…majoring in Sociology at VUSC…favorite
athletes are Ron Artest and Ben Wallace…loves to eat pasta…watches "The
Simpsons" on television and likes the movie "Training Day"…is an LA
Laker fanatic…loves the color blue…will wear #44 at VU…hobbies include
watching movies, reading, running, and playing video games…would like
to meet Mano Ginobli…believes that poverty is the biggest problem in
the world…likes the team chemistry on his VU team…has learned from life
to never quit, that hard work pays off, and to learn from
mistakes…competing in sports has taught him to respect the game and the
toughness that life brings…would like to pursue a future playing
basketball or a career in Law Enforcement.

Coach Wilson’s Comments: Miguel has displayed a positive attitude
from his first day on campus. He is one of our best workers in the
weight room and the court, and is a leader by example.
