The
athlete: Matt begins his career as a Lion this season…transferred to
VUSC from Orange Coast College…played two seasons for Coach Steve
Spencer in the Orange Empire Conference…OCC’s Most Improved player as a
freshman…earned the Defensive Player Award in 2006…All-Conference
Honorable Mention as a sophomore…earned his Associates Degree and a 3.7
GPA at OCC…averaged 10 points, five rebounds, and two blocks per game
at OCC…helped Mater Dei High School earn the Division II State
Championship in 2003 prior to attending OCC…carried a 3.8 GPA at
MDHS…graduated from MDHS in 2004…helped Coach Gary McKnight and the
Monarchs win three Serra League Championships…has played basketball
since he was ten years old…great basketball build…big pick up for the
Lions…brings athleticism and unselfishness to the team…has great
defensive skills…will also be counted on to supply some offense in his
first year with the Lions…experienced player…should make an impact as
soon as he learns the VU system and adjusts to the GSAC
competition…expect great things from this solid student-athlete.
The person: Matthew Thomas Davis was born in Anaheim, California on
September 19, 1986…parents are Melvin and Teri Davis…has one older
brother…just goes by "Matt" for short…is majoring in Accounting at
Vanguard…sports hero is Rasheed Wallace…likes to eat cereal…loves the
movie "Friday" and enjoys watching the "Tyra Banks Show" on
television…roots for the Portland Trailblazers…likes the book "The Cat
In The Hat"…favorite colors are black and blue…will wear #40 at
VUSC…hobbies include playing card games, watching movies, and hanging
out with his friends…would like to meet George W. Bush…thinks the
biggest problem in the world is George W. Bush…likes the youth on the
VU men’s basketball team…has learned that life is too short to worry
about the little things…playing basketball has taught him about
teamwork and dedication…wants to become a Certified Public Accountant.
