The
athlete: Joey joins the Lions for his first season…comes to VU from
Clovis West High School in Fresno, California…2006 graduate who played
basketball for Coach Tom Orlich…led his team to a 10-0 record in the
Tri-River Athletic Conference and a 30-3 record in 2006…received
Defensive Award at CWHS…selected to play in the City/County All-Star
game as a senior…named Mr. Hustle three times in his career…registered
50 assists and 31 steals as a point guard for CWHS…helped his team make
it to the CIF State Championship game, losing by three points…has
played basketball for 15 years…good speed, solid basketball skills…will
make big improvements as he learns more about the collegiate game and
competition…has one speed ?" full…will compete for time on the
court while he learns his new teammates and the VU system…has the
tools, needs the poise…not afraid to lead…will attempt to fill a big
hole for the Lions in 2006-07…has a terrific career in front of him as
he matures into a collegiate point guard.
The person: Joseph Karlick Svennson Parker was born in Fresno,
California on February 13, 1987 to his parents David and Sandy…has one
brother and three sisters…older brother played basketball at The
Master’s College…people just call him "Joey"…will be studying Business
at Vanguard…sports hero is Steve Nash…loves to eat pizza and watch
"Family Guy" on television…favorite movie is "Gladiator"…loves the
color blue and the number five…cheers for the Phoenix Suns…enjoys
sleeping…would like to meet God…believes that sin is the biggest
problem in the world…feels that his VU team is like a family…has
learned that life is not easy…has learned about discipline from playing
basketball.
