The
athlete: De’Auonte begins his career with the Lions as a
junior…transferred to Vanguard from Allan Hancock Junior College in
Santa Maria, California…was an HM All-Conference player and led the
team in rebounds during the 2004-05 season…averaged double digits in
scoring and rebounding at AHJC…played his freshman year at Navarro
Junior College in Corsicana, Texas…2003 graduate of Ridgeway High
School in Memphis, Tennessee…rebounding leader and high school Team
MVP…helped RHS earn two State Championships…also ran Track in high
school…has played basketball for seven years…good athlete…great overall
basketball skills…runs the court well and can rebound with the
best…left-handed shooting guard with good size…will also play the wing
and can score from anywhere on the court…great addition to the new Lion
team.
The person: De’Auonte’ was born on May 28, 1985 in Memphis,
Tennessee…parents are Edward and Stephanie Johnson…uses the nickname "D
Jay"…has two younger sisters…plans to major in Business at
Vanguard…favorite athlete is Carmelo Anthony…loves the movie "Hustle -
N - Flow"…roots for the Memphis Grizzlies…prefers the number
seven…likes the colors red and light blue…enjoys playing basketball,
going out, and going to church…would like to meet God…feels that money
is the biggest problem in the world…likes the talent on his VU team…has
learned that no one is immune to the trials and tribulations of
life…would like to be a Professional Basketball Player or the CEO of a
business.
His thoughts: I chose Vanguard because it is a Christian University
and offered me a basketball opportunity. I really like the people here.
