Vanguard University

Stephen French begins his first season as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Vanguard University. "I feel privileged to be apart of a great basketball tradition at Vanguard University," says French. "In the short time I have been here, I've come to understand why so many of the alumni stay connected with the school. There are great people here who are willing to invest themselves in the education, spiritual growth, and lives of their students."

French comes to the Lions basketball program from Concordia University. He has served the last seven seasons as assistant coach to Greg Marshall. He was instrumental in the development of the Concordia team and help them reach the NAIA National Tournament and a final eight finish last season.

French feel fortunate to have both Mike Ruble and Andy Newman on his coaching staff. "Both Mike and Andy bring a lot more to the team than strong basketball skills," says French. "They both are sacrificing a great deal in terms of time, energy, and finances to be a part of the staff here. I feel privileged to have them working in our basketball program."

French has his Bachelor's Degree from the University of California, Berkeley in Rhetoric, and his Master's Degree from UC Berkeley in Chinese Studies.
