First-year head coach Cameron Dollar will have his hands full replacing Bill Reynolds and recruiting a new team. Dollar begins his head coaching career after graduating from UCLA in1997 and spending last year as an assistant at UCI. Mike Jones and Mike Ruble will be working with Dollar as new assistants as a new era of Southern California College Basketball begins.
This will be Dollar's first head coaching assignment. "I have wanted to be a head coach since I was a small child," commented Dollar. "I come from an athletic family, in fact, my father is still coaching at Clarkson High School near Atlanta. My brother Chad is an assistant coach at Western Carolina University."
Dollar comes to the Costa Mesa campus after one season as an assistant coach at the University of California, Irvine. While his coaching experience may not be well documented, he brings excellent credentials in terms of his basketball background. Every basketball team and program Dollar has been associated with has experienced great success. During his high school career, the team he played for was nationally ranked. In college, he helped lead UCLA to the NCAA National Championship in 1995.
"I am excited to help continue the great tradition of basketball at SCC," says Dollar. "When Bill Reynolds retired, this program lost not only a great coach but a quality person. I hope I can provide the type of expertise that can allow the program to grown. SCC is a unique place where a person can enjoy working with solid individuals, with the game they love and have the opportunity to share their faith."
Cameron and his wife, Deonca, live in Diamond Bar.
