Biography

The athlete:  Brian begins his second year as a Lion…had a stellar season in 2004, playing in 30 of 32 games…was the team’s leading scorer…averaged 17.6 points per game…very competitive and fiery player…transferred to VU from the University of Portland in 2003…attended Walnut Grove Secondary in Langley, B.C…graduated high school in 2001…Langley City season MVP and league all-star…led WGS to fourth place in Provincial Championships and a league championship…personal game-high of 42 points in high school…ranked sixth-best player in B.C. in 2000…led high school team in points, rebounds, and steals…one of VU’s most talented players…good outside shot with the ability to take the ball to the basket…excellent defensive technique…one of the most skilled offensive players in the conference…worked very hard in the off season to prepare for this upcoming season…very gifted athlete…quiet, good student, who has great potential as a person and a player…made the NAIA Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-GSAC teams last year…will be a quality leader as he matures…has a bright future with the Lions.

The person:    Brian Kim was born in Seoul, Korea on November 10, 1983…son of Steve and Lisa Kim who live in British Columbia…has one older brother, Chris…nickname is “BK”…is majoring in Communication…loves to eat Korean food…sports hero is Paul Pierce…favorite movie is “Godfather”…likes the TV show “The Simpsons” and the book “More Than a Game”…roots for the Toronto Raptors…loves the colors white and black and wears the number 34…favorite place is Seoul, Korea…enjoys listening to music…would like to meet Jesus…believes that racism and discrimination are the biggest problems in the world…feels this year’s team has the biggest heart in the nation…has learned from life to follow your heart…playing basketball has taught him about discipline and work ethic…wants to become God’s person.

His thoughts:  Brian feels it was God’s plan for him to come to VU.  He loves the community and the friends he has made here.

Coach Wilson’s Comments: “Brian is a very intelligent and skilled person. When he came to Vanguard University, he was very outgoing and his involvement in our program has helped him develop as a person.  In his growth he is learning the value of leadership.”
