Biography

The athlete:  Brian comes to Vanguard from the University of Portland…redshirt one year and played one season at UP for Coach Michael Holton…played in half of the games in 2003…attended Walnut Grove Secondary in Langley, B.C. prior to signing with UP…graduated in 2001…Langley City season MVP and league all-star…led WGS to fourth place in Provincial Championships and a league championship…personal game-high of 42 points in high school…ranked sixth-best player in B.C. in 2000…led high school team in points, rebounds, and steals…has played basketball for seven years…also played Rugby in high school…one of VU’s most talented players…good outside shot with the ability to take the ball to the basket…excellent defensive technique…will only get better as he adjusts to the Vanguard system…has the potential to become an All-GSAC player…quiet, good student, who has great potential as a person and a player…will be a quality leader as he matures…has a bright future with the Lions.

The person:    Brian Kim was born in Seoul, Korea on November 10, 1983…parents, Steve and Lisa Kim, live in British Columbia…has one older brother…nickname is “B Dot”…is majoring in Communication…loves to eat, especially Korean food…sports hero is Vince Carter…favorite movie is a Korean flick, “Chin-Gu”…likes the TV show “The Simpsons” and the book “More Than a Game”…roots for the Toronto Raptors…loves the color baby blue and wears the number 34…favorite place is Seoul, Korea…enjoys listening to music, and talking on the phone to his family, friends, and girl friend…would like to meet Jesus…believes that racism and poverty are the biggest problems in the world…likes the chemistry and mutual respect on the VU men’s basketball team…has learned from life to trust in God and believes the slogan “no pain, no gain”…playing basketball has taught him to be competitive at everything and to never give up…wants to become an NBA player or a coach.

His thoughts:  Brian feels it was God’s plan for him to come to VU.  He likes the people, the atmosphere, his room, and the basketball team.
