The athlete: Todd joins the pack of Lions after spending his freshman year at the University of the Pacific…played for Coach Ed Sprague Jr…first collegiate save was against Northwestern…played high school baseball at Laguna Beach H.S…named Pacific Coast League first-team in 2001 and 2002…also played football in high school…strong left-handed pitcher…above average fastball…solid breaking ball…potential to be an impact pitcher in the conference…solid athlete who will compete for a starting role…will see many innings for the Lions…good frame and is a student of the game…look for Merz to play a large role in the team success.

Merz was born on June 7, 1984 in New York City, New York…parents are Steve and Elaine Merz…has one sister Kira…is pursuing a major in Communications…played the game for 14 years…favorite food is sushi…roots for the NY Giants…enjoys playing baseball and hanging out with friends…favorite TV show is “The OC”…feels the biggest problem in the world is terrorism…sports has taught him about competitiveness and teamwork…would love to meet Brett Favre and Jesus…feels the best thing about this year’s team is the great group of guys…wants to become a professional athlete.
