The athlete:  Stephen starts his collegiate career with the Lions…completed a strong high school experience at Santa Clarita Christian in 2005…played baseball for Coach Gerrick Moss in the Heritage League…League MVP…Team MVP…Offensive Player of the Year…named to the All-Star team as a senior…also played football in high school…has played baseball his whole life…throws right…switch hitter…good size…strong with good speed…has power at the plate…versatile skills…hard worker…team player…newcomer with lots of potential...fairly new to the outfield…will improve with time and experience in the field.

The person:  Stephen Charles Mercier was born in Granada Hills, California on October 17, 1986 to his parents Steve and Debbie Mercier…has one sister…is undecided on a major of study…likes to eat at Taco Bell…favorite movies are “Mean Girls” and “13 Going on 30”…watches “The Simpsons” and “Seinfeld” on television…loves the color blue and the number 24…roots for the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Dodgers…enjoys surfing, snowboarding, and playing football on the beach…would like to meet Jesus Christ…likes the unity and depth on the VU baseball team this year…has learned from life that everything works out for the good…wants to become a Fire Fighter.

His thoughts:  God opened the door and provided the means for me to come to Vanguard.  I love the location, the environment, and my new friends.

Coach Mallernee’s comments:  Stephen has moved from the infield to the outfield to give us depth, a sign of a true team player.  He will also give us a good bat off the bench.
