The athlete: Shea returns to the Lions after an injury-filled rookie season…a knee injury limited Alderete to 15 games and 34 at bats in 2005…tallied six hits, including three homers and six runs batted in for the Lions…had off-season knee surgery…has worked hard to rehabilitate and to be ready to compete in 2006…came to VUSC from Concordia University, Irvine last year…played for Coach Andrew Kelly at Saddleback Valley Christian High School…team MVP his junior and senior year…strong athlete…brings a ton of power to the lineup…drives the ball gap to gap…has played the game for 14 years…team player…if healthy will make a big impact for the Lions…should compete for first base position or the designated hitter positions…should see some good things from Alderete in 2006.

The person: Shea Ryan Alderete was born on July 7, 1984 in Buena Park, California…parents are Ray and Cindi Alderete…has one younger brother who also plays baseball…nickname is “Sheady”…is a Marketing major at Vanguard…sports hero is Frank Thomas…loves to eat Italian food…favorite TV show is “Entourage”…likes the number seven and the colors silver and black…loves the movie “Wedding Crashers”…cheers for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim…hobbies include fishing and going to the beach…feels the biggest problem in the world is selfishness…has learned in life that things don’t always go the way you want…playing sports has taught him confidence…wants be become a successful businessman and father.
