The athlete: Mike comes to Vanguard from Golden West College, where he played one season...hard throwing right-hander that has a lot of potential…great work ethic…played high school baseball at Fountain Valley High School under coach Ron La Ruffa…also played basketball in high school…has played baseball for 15 year…power pitcher…strong athlete…brings in experience as a sophomore…will be one of the starters in the rotation if he stays healthy…coming off “Tommy John” shoulder surgery…look for big things from the big righty…could be a dominating pitcher in the GSAC this year.

The person: Michael was born on March 24, 1983 in Huntington Beach, California…son of Jack and Cindy Guernsey…has a sister named Katie…goes by “Mike”…majoring in Business…sports hero is Mark Prior…favorite TV show is “The Sopranos”…loves to eat steak and chicken…roots for the Chicago Cubs…likes the movie “A Walk to Remember”…feels that materialism is the biggest problem in the world…likes to go fishing and spend time at home…would like to meet Jesus…believes that team chemistry and work ethic are the best thing about this year’s team…sports has taught him that hard work pays off…wants to become a good husband and a good dad.
