The athlete: Matt is the only four-year player on the Lion roster…coming off a strong junior season where he moved from the outfield to the third base position…had 50 hits, 27 RBIs, 13 doubles and a team-leading eight home runs…has played in 113 games, starting 93 in his VU career…has 91 career hits…played high school baseball at Wenatchee High School…played for coach Ed Knaggs in the Big 9 Conference…was a Second-Team All-Conference selection as a junior…also played basketball and football in high school…has played baseball for 16 years…bats right and throws right…big, strong build…athletic and powerful…good speed…great arm in the outfield or infield…will play wherever the Lions need him the most…expect Voorhies to complete his career with a bang.

The person: Matthew David Voorhies was born in Turlock, California on August 7, 1984 to his parents Steve and Sally Voorhies…has one older brother…is a Kinesiology senior at Vanguard…just goes by “Matt”…favorite athlete is “Albert Pujols”…likes to eat Mexican food…loves the movie “Cinderella Man”…likes the TV show “Deal Or No Deal”…favorite color is blue and number is 30…loves the beach…cheers for the Seattle Mariners and the San Francisco 49ers…hobbies include reading and playing beach volleyball…would like to meet Jesus Christ…believes that the biggest problems in the world are pride and ignorance…likes the work ethic on his VU baseball team…has learned from life that less is more…sports has taught him about perseverance…would like to pursue a career as a professional baseball player.
