The athlete: Matt begins his second year as a Lion…older brother Josh  is a VU teammate…had a 3.95 earned run average in 14 appearances in 2003…graduated in 2002 from Rancho Cucamonga High School…played baseball at RCHS under coach Sean Sullivan…also played football at RCHS…bats right and throws right…right-handed hurler with good poise…hard worker…solid baseball fundamentals and understanding of the game…throws hard…will compete for playing time in the outfield but will also provide important pitching relief…has worked hard to become a complete player…look for Franco to have a good year on the mound and in the field.

The person: Matthew David Franco was born on August 18, 1984 in Long Beach, California…parents are Chuck and Sheryl Franco…goes by “Matt” for short…majoring in History/Political Science…roots for the LA Dodgers baseball team…favorite athlete is Orel Hershiser…likes to eat at In-N-Out…likes the movie “Enemy At The Gate”…loves the color blue and the number eleven…enjoys watching “The Simpsons” on TV…hobbies include surfing and playing video games…feels that this year’s team gets along very well…sports has taught him to have patience…wants to become successful in life.

His thoughts: I selected Vanguard because of its Christian setting. I enjoy the location of the campus, and really appreciate the friends I have made.
