The athlete: Marcus enters his third season as a starting pitcher for the Lions…registered a 7-4 record for Vanguard in 2002, pitching six complete games…played baseball, football, and basketball at Newberg High School in Newberg, Oregon…all-conference player with a .465 batting average…bats right and throws right…has been very reliable in his first two seasons…enters 2003 with a 15-8 career record at VU…returns as the staff ace…has good command of his pitches and excellent poise on the mound…always provides quality starts and has good endurance…will be the staff workhorse this season on the hill for the Lions.

The person: Marcus was born October 1, 1981 in Portland, Oregon…parents are Patrick and Janis Harris…nickname is “Marky”…is an Accounting major…loves Italian food…sports hero is Michael Jordan…likes the movie “Snatch” …enjoys fly fishing and hunting…favorite place is the Ochoco Mountains…baseball has taught him competitiveness endurance and work ethic …likes the camaraderie of this year’s team…wants to become the sole proprietor of an investment estate company.

His thoughts: I picked Vanguard because I wanted to play baseball in the warm weather. I enjoy the location of the campus and the friendly atmosphere.
