The athlete: Luke had a very solid collegiate debut in 2005 and returns for his second season with the Lions…played in 42 games, starting in 41 and racking up 151 at bats…recorded 40 hits, 22 runs, 23 RBIs, and a .265 batting average…played his high school ball for Coach Ken Putman at Orange Glen H.S…earned first-team All-Valley League honors…Team MVP…also played football in high school…has played baseball for 15 years…is a utility type player…came in as a catcher but can play any position…decent speed and base running skills…has a strong arm…hits right, throws right…has a lot of potential and a very bright future with the Lions…played primarily first base in 2005…look for Iverson to play a big role again as a sophomore for VUSC.

The person: Luke was born on January 20, 1986 in Oceanside, California to his parents Scott and Denise Butler…has two siblings, Cory and Amanda…is a Business Administration major at Vanguard…cheers for the San Diego Padres and Chargers…loves to eat shrimp…favorite movie is “Finding Nemo”…enjoys watching the Discovery Channel on television…loves the color blue and the number 21…favorite place is the baseball field…would like to meet Bill Gates…enjoys playing baseball, football, and going fishing…loves the depth on his VU team…has learned in life to take a break and clear his mind every once in a while…competing in athletics has taught him about discipline, self-control, teamwork, and playing to win…wants to become a professional baseball player.

His thoughts: I selected Vanguard for the Christian atmosphere.  I really like the relationships on the team and within the Vanguard community.
