Vanguard University

The athlete: Jonathan joins the Lions this year as a freshman…comes to VU from Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa…played under coach Ryan Elliott…received the Coaches’ Award his senior year…was the team MVP as a junior…highlight was his grand slam against Laguna Beach H.S…has played the game for 14 years…bats right and throws right…very hard worker…always looking for ways to improve…should see some action in relief as a rookie…will gain valuable experience this year…Jonathan works hard and has seen it pay off…great example of a student-athlete…Skaar should contribute as a freshman. 

The person: Jonathan Robert Skaar was born on July 30, 1985 in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii…parents are Gary and Betsy Skaar…has two brothers and one sister…teammates call him “Skaar”…is an Athletic Training major…throws and bats right-handed…sports hero is Cal Ripken Jr…favorite TV show is “Everybody Loves Raymond”…likes to eat burgers and fries…roots for the Baltimore Orioles…would love to meet Jesus…feels that the baseball players at VU put their heart into what they do…sports has taught him about discipline, focus and hard work…feels the biggest problem in the world is sin…wants to become a Physical Therapist or a Pastor.

His thoughts: I chose Vanguard University because it is close to home.  I really like the family environment and the Christian atmosphere.
