The athlete:  Erik begins his collegiate career with the Lions this season…2005 graduate from Adolfo Camarillo High School…played for Coaches Scott Cline and Richard Jaquez at ACHS…first-team All-Pacific View League selection as a sophomore and a senior…first-team All-Ventura County…recorded a .385 batting average and seven homers for ACHS…notched a 2.33 ERA as a pitcher…bats left…throws left…played on the St. Louis Cardinal scout team for two years…has played the game for 13 years…highly-touted recruit…talented pure hitter with power…solid outfielder…hard-throwing southpaw with a good change up…expected to make an immediate impact for the Lions…should have a big career as a Lion.

The person:  Erik was born on October 1, 1987 in Camarillo, California…parents are Davey and Laurie Komatsu…has two sisters and one brother…will be a Communications student at Vanguard…loves to eat lasagna…sports hero is Barry Bonds…watches “Family Guy” on television…enjoys watching Jamie Foxx stand up comedy…favorite color is black…prefers the numbers 1 and 3…hobbies include rapping and playing video games…would like to meet God…feels that poverty and war are the biggest problems in the world…has learned from life that daily choices affect the rest of one’s life…competing in athletics has taught him about being on a team…is interested in being a professional baseball player, a rapper or an animator.

His thoughts:  I came to Vanguard because I wanted to play for Coach Mallernee.  I love the location of the school.

Coach Mallernee’s comments:  Erik will contribute both ways as a freshman.  He is a confident hitter who will nail down a spot in the middle of the order.  He is also a lot of fun to be around.
