The athlete:  Daniel transferred to Vanguard this season…closes his collegiate career with his first season in a Lion uniform…played one season at the University of Arkansas prior to attending VUSC…competed two years at Bakersfield College right after high school…graduated from North High School in Bakersfield in 2002…two-sport high school athlete…Most Valuable Pitcher at NHS where he played for Coach Tony Silver…two-time all-league player at NHS…received Star Award for character in high school…two-sport high school athlete…big, strong left-hander…deceptive pitcher…has good speed and a great change-up…brings NCAA Division I experience…should provide some veteran leadership in his first and only year at VUSC…look for an immediate impact from Brown.

The person:  Daniel Neil Brown was born in Tucson, Arizona on December 8, 1984…mother is Lynn Brown…is a Business major at Vanguard…nickname is “DB”…favorite professional athlete is Mark Mulder…likes to eat chicken tacos…likes the movie “Slackers”…enjoys watching “Sponge Bob” on television…loves the color blue…favorite place to be is on the baseball field…roots for the Oakland Athletics…believes that selfishness is the biggest problem in the world…likes the cohesiveness on the VU baseball team…has learned to trust in God because He will provide…competing in athletics has taught him about discipline…would like to be a great father in the future.

Daniel’s closing thoughts:  I love the community at Vanguard and I appreciate all of the spiritual support from people.  I would hope that in my only year at VUSC, people would see that I am a hard-working, dedicated athlete.

Coach Malernee’s comments:  Daniel was a great pick up for us this year.  He is a solid, driven young man that is out to prove himself his senior year.
