Riley Conlan begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Vanguard baseball program.
Conlan most recently served an assistant coach in the California Collegiate League for the Arroyo Seco Saints. He was the team’s first base coach and primarily trained players from the NCAA Division I and II levels.
He also worked for Calabasas High School as a hitting and catching coach. He helped with game day planning and coordination of the off-season strength and conditioning program, as well as assisting with field maintenance.
“We’re very excited to have Riley join our staff,” remarked Head Coach Rob Pegg. “Amongst a talented pool of inquiries, he set himself apart with his high character and a passion for player development and teaching the game. He brings a strong playing background from the highest level of collegiate baseball and possesses a wide range of baseball experience. He will fit in nicely with the staff and connect well with the players.”
Conlan began his tenure with the program earlier in the fall and has been heavily involved in preparing the nation’s 13th-ranked team for the upcoming campaign.
“I’m incredibly honored and humbled to be a part of the success that Vanguard Baseball has brought to the NAIA,” said Conlan. “I’m looking forward to contributing to the culture while upholding a high standard for excellence on and off the field, as well as in faith.”
As a player, Conlan began his collegiate career in 2014-15 at Moorpark Junior College, where he flashed a .366 average en route to earning First Team All State, First Team All Southern California and First Team All-Conference. He then transferred to CSUN for two seasons. In 2018, he hit .311 in Big West play and posted personal bests in batting (.296), runs (23), hits (37), RBI (17), slugging (.416), walks (14) and on-base percentage (.404) in 40 games.
He also finished on the Big West Commissioner’s Honor Roll with Highest Honors and made the school’s Dean’s List.
Conlan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Studies in 2018.
