The athlete: Clay begins his final season of collegiate competition…second-year Lions…had a 1-3 record in 2005 with a 3.27 ERA…pitched 44 innings, recording one shutout in seven starts…played two seasons at West Hills Junior College prior to attending Vanguard…played for coach Archie Hodson in the CVC conference…graduated from Tulare Western High School in 2002…also played four years of high school basketball…right handed…has great mechanics and keeps the ball down….strong and determined athlete…throws hard…works hard…will play a big role on VU’s veteran pitching staff in 2006…expect another good year from Brown.

The person: Clay Jordan Brown was born on July 9, 1984 in Tulare, California…parents are Loyal and Brenda Brown…has two brothers and two sisters…nickname is “CJB”…majoring in History at VUSC…enjoys eating Thai food…favorite athlete is Becca Millard…cheers for the LA Lakers…loves the movie “Braveheart”…favorite color is purple…spends free time playing sports, reading, camping, sleeping, eating, and surprising people…would like to meet C.S. Lewis…thinks the biggest problem in the world is pride…feels the best things about his Lion team are the youth and strength on the roster…has learned that life is like a marathon (Phil. 3:12-14)…competing in sports has taught him about confidence, humility, leadership and how to serve others…wants to be a Teacher, good husband, and a Missionary.

Clay’s closing thoughts:  I would hope that my passionate presence on the field would be glorifying to Jesus Christ.  I want to be an encouragement to my teammates and an inspiration to others to follow Christ.
