The athlete:  Brandon begins his quest at Vanguard after transferring from Long Beach State where he spent the last two seasons with Head Coach Mike Weathers…in the summer of 2008 pitched 33 innings recording 30 strikeouts to go with a 3.27 in the Texas Collegiate League…graduated from Glendora High School in Glendora, California in 2006 where he played for Head Coach Dan Henley…was second-team All-League as a senior…played four years with the Charter Oak Stars club team…also played basketball…switch-hitter and throws left…has played baseball for 15 years.

The person:  Brandon Matthew Godfrey was born in Hollywood, California on July 25, 1988 to parents Bill and Michelle…has an older brother…majoring in Sociology…nickname is “Sunny”…likes eating Mexican food at “El Torito”…favorite movie is “Last Samurai” and TV Show is “Entourage”…likes the color blue and the number 15…favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13…roots for the LA Dodgers and UCLA basketball…sports hero is LeBron James…hobbies include golfing and body boarding…most respects John Wooden…learned in life to give 100% in everything that you do…baseball has taught him discipline…career goal is to play baseball as long as he can and then be a fireman.

His thoughts:  I selected Vanguard because of its baseball program.

Coach Grajeda’s comments: “Sunny gives us a legitimate left-handed pitcher in the rotation.  His experience at Long Beach State will provide leadership and an answer for left-handed opponents in the GSAC.  He is a mentally tough competitor and bulldog on the mound”.
