LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The second game of the year for Vanguard men's soccer unfortunately ended in a similar fashion to Thursday's contest, as CSU Los Angeles won 4-0. The Lions mustered only two shots on goal and dropped to 0-2, while the Golden Eagles improved to 2-0.
What Happened? The Blue and Gold held steady over the first nine minutes, but that changed in the 10th minute. A quick passing play opened up Jose Mariscal, who roofed his shot into the top-left portion of the net to put the hosts ahead.
Mario Floriano had to make his first save four minutes later, and though VU started to come back to an even keel, that was upended again in the 32nd minute. Emil Kischka used a couple of bodies as screens and lanced his shot into the bottom-left corner to double the advantage.
It was not until the 42nd minute that
Giancarlo Romero picked up his first career shot to get the Lions their first attempt of the night, but the CSULA keeper made the save.
Kevin Abarca had the second shot on goal in the 60th minute, but it was stopped before it found the twine, which unfortunately concluded the VU offensive production for the night.
Meanwhile, with plenty of possession, the Golden Eagles struck for two more goals, with Jacob Cervantes making it 3-0 in the 66th minute and Taito Yoshihara making it 4-0 in the 71st minute.
Caleb Johnson played the final 18 minutes of the contest for VU and made one save.
The Lions were outshot 13-2 for the game.
What's Next? The CCAA train continues for the Lions, who welcome CSU San Marcos to the VU Soccer Field on Thursday for a 4:00 p.m. match.
