AZUSA, Calif. -- Three individuals went to the Franson Last Chance Meet for VU women's track & field on Saturday, as
Briana Martin,
Kolena Apana, and
Kaylee Best competed in the triple jump. Martin and Apana were trying to join Best in the top 20 spots in the country to be in the mix for qualifying for the NCAA Division II Track & Field National Championships. Best topped the trio with an 11.77m (38'7 ½") jump, which placed sixth at the event. Martin was next at 11.15m (36' 7") in 14th, and Apana was 17th with a distance of 10.97 (36' 0"). Those were good results for the Martin and Apana, but fell short of the top 20 in DII, which is above 12 meters. Though Best was under the weather on Saturday, she still sits 11th in the nation with her 12.42 (40' 9") leap at the Pacific West Conference Championships, pretty much locking her into the National Championships. That will be confirmed tomorrow, when the NCAA announces the qualifiers on the national website. The event is held at Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kansas, May 21-23.
