LONG BEACH, Calif. - Vanguard Women's Track and Field launched out a small cast in the final tuneups before the Pacific West Conference Championships next week. Eight athletes took the stage for VU across the Beach and Bryan Clay Invitational.
Beach Invitational (Hosted by Long Beach State)
Junior
Isabella Alvarez was the only VU representative in the 800m, claiming a podium spot at 2:30.28 to pinch third.
Kaitlyn Smith and
Giselle Rubio were the pairing in the 1500m, with Smith docking a personal-best sub five-minute race at 4:56.15, landing sixth place. Rubio penciled in at 5:03.81, to take eighth.
Rounding out the runners at the LBSU Invitational was
Haley Svendsen, who was eighth in her heat in the 100H, running a 15:69, which usurped her previous personal best from last week.
The field team was made up of
Kolena Apana in the triple jump, who was ninth a with 38' 0" which was a career-best and fourth best leap in school history.

Bryan Clay Invitational (Hosted by Azusa Pacific)
Three Lions make the journey to Cougar Stadium on Saturday. Freshman
Angelique Addae netted a top-20 finish in the 100m dash, coming in at 12.46, a new personal best and a few ticks under a top-10 time in program history.
Concluding the group was
Mary Sawczuk and
Haley Butenschoen who both posted personal bests in the 800m. Sawczuk crossed at 2:18.22 with Butenschoen a second behind at 2:19.30.
What's Next? The Lions will head to San Diego for the 2026 PacWest Championships, hosted by Point Loma from April 23-25.
