Lions Finish Colorado Trip at the NCAA DII West Regional Preview

PUEBLO, Colo. – Women's golf concluded their Colorado trip at the NCAA DII West Regional Preview hosted at the Pueblo Country Club. VU finished the two-day event, placing 21st, netting a team score of 667 (332-335). Claiming first place was #3 Dallas Baptist University (289-295), who marked their third successive tournament win and also took the individual crown courtesy of Madison Ude. DBU Head Coach, Kenny Trapp, also made history, notching his 93rd career victory to become the all-time leader in NCAA DII coaching wins.

The Course: Founded in 1903, the Pueblo Country Club Golf Course stands as the second-oldest club in Colorado. The rugged course was originally designed as a nine-hole course, but now features 18 holes, with a 5,981-yardage. Surrounded by cacti and sagebrush, golfers can anticipate strategically placed bunkers, rolling fairways, and stunning views of the Rocky Mountain foothills.

What Happened? Theresa Shaw once again led the Lions, finishing in a tie for 29th to pace the Blue and Gold. Shaw went 13 over par, shooting 155 (76-79) and earned three of her team-high four birdies in the opening round. The transfer also managed more than a quarter of VU's total pars with 18, and left the Preview tied seventh on par-three holes (+1, .3.10)

VU's next highest finisher was sophomore Brooke Carpenter, who tallied rounds of 82 and 83 to tie in 83rd place. The Temecula native was 16th on par-three holes (+2, 3.20), collected three birdies, and had 14 pars.

Kaitlin Anderson was four strokes behind Carpenter (83-86), leaving the event tied 98th. She clipped seven of her eventual 11 pars on her day one run through the course and pinched a sole birdie on the sixth hole of round two.

Shanaya Neru and Grace Kiger both saw improved scores on day two, with each shooting four strokes better in the second round. Neru (178) ended in 105th with sporting rounds of 91 and 87. Kiger was tied for 107th, and sealed 11 pars (96-92) in the final out of state trip for the fall season.
