Vanguard Athletics Announces Promotions in Administration

COSTA MESA – Vanguard Athletics would like to announce the reorganization of three administration positions as the department enters its first full year in the NCAA Division II (DII).

Ally Garrett has been promoted to the role of Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Recreation and Compliance Coordinator. Garrett is entering her third year at Vanguard and was given oversight of Vanguard Recreation (VU Rec) during the 2023-24 school year. She will continue to lead that division on campus in her new role, which includes the campus fitness center and intramural activities for all students at VU. In addition, Garrett will now closely help Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Jane Teixeira with NCAA DII compliance monitoring and processing for all student-athletes.

"Ally has been faithful and committed to serving our department as well as serving the Vanguard community through her VU recreation position," stated Vanguard Director of Athletics Jeff Bussell.

Jose Martinez has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations. After arriving last school year, Martinez handled business operation duties, including accounting operations, team travel, and human resources for the department. In addition, he will now be the liaison to the conferencing office on campus for athletics, the liaison to the IT office, and will handle all VU facility-related operations.

"Jose has done a tremendous job taking on additional duties during the transition and has been faithful and committed to growing in his role and serving our department and the VU community well," said Bussell.

Courtney Rocha joined the staff of Head Women's Soccer Coach Emily Reynolds last year and will now take on additional duties in the administration office as the Coordinator of Athletic Recreation Engagement (CARE). Rocha will continue her duties as an assistant coach and will start working under Garrett in coordinating intramural programs and supervising all VU Rec activities and equipment.

"Taking on VU Rec and intramural events means we need to provide a staff that can care and support for all students across campus. As a department, we look forward to providing great experiences for all VU students and staff and I am excited to see Courtney serving in this new capacity," said Bussell.

All changes are effective immediately.
