CARLSBAD, Calif. – The losing streak for Vanguard beach volleyball reached seven straight as the Blue and Gold fell to Saint Katherine and CSU Bakersfield on Saturday at Warm Waters Beach.
The Lions took the Firebirds down to the wire in a 3-2 loss, then fell to the 'Runners 4-1.
The ones, twos and fours recorded wins for the Lions over the two matches.
VU dropped to 6-15 on the season. The Lions await the Golden State Athletic Conference Championship where they are three-time reigning champions.
Saint Katherine 3, #6 Vanguard 2
The Lions picked up wins from Madi Nash and Madison Arnold at the twos, and Kortney Hitt and Ana Broadhead at the fives.
Nash and Arnold defeated Katie Alexander and Natalie Hill, 21-14, 21-13. Hitt and Broadhead earned a 21-10, 9-21, 15-11 victory at the fives.
The best chance for the Lions to win a third match occurred at the threes where Paige Cutwright and Gianna Pecile battled Bailey Combs and Camille Harvey, but fell 21-14, 22-20.
Emma Galloway and Hannah Wilmes lost 21-15, 21-12 at the ones, while Bailey Coffin and Logan Daniels were toppled 21-15, 21-9 at the fours.
CSU Bakersfield 4, Vanguard 1
Galloway and Wilmes recorded Vanguard's lone point with a three-set triumph at the ones. They took down Katey Milne and Bella Almeida, 21-16, 12-21, 15-11.
The Lions competed at the twos and fours but came up short. Nash and Arnold were on the cusp of winning both sets at the twos, but dropped a tough 22-20, 21-19 contest to Vivi Kaelin and Ella Erteltova at the twos.
Coffin and Daniels won the first set, but succumbed in the next two at the fours against Ava Palm and Olivia Silacci-Jensen by score of 19-21, 21-12, 15-8.
What's Next?: The GSAC Championship begins on Friday, April 12 at the Brookhurst and PCH Courts in Huntington Beach.
