Lions Wrap Up Busy Weekend at Bryan Clay Invite

AZUSA, Calif. – Vanguard sent a handful of track and field athletes to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Saturday, the final tuneup before the Golden State Athletic Conference Championships.

The women's sprinters participated in the majority of the events amongst a field of elite athletes.

Eryn Burke appeared in the 400 meter dash and came in 28th place with a time of 55.81 seconds. She was VU's top female finisher while racing in heat four. Burke ranks No. 2 in the NAIA with the school record time of 54.89 set on April 8 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite.

She also raced in the 200 meter dash with teammate Brooke Dalgity. In a field of 88 athletes, Burke finished 49th in 24.74 seconds, while Dalgity clocked 25.08 for 61st place.

Dalgity joined Armiyah Johnson in the 100 meter dash. While she didn't reach her career-best 11.91 performance from last season, Johnson posted a season-best 12.12. She has steadily lowered her times from the season-opening 12.70 at the Occidental Invite in March. Meanwhile, Dalgity posted 12.40 in her first appearance in the event this season.

Jordyn Burke competed in the 100 hurdles and dropped her personal-best time to 16.00, which ranks No. 5 in the VU record book.

Karla Sanchez-Ruiz ran the 1500 meters and finished with a time of 5:01.39.

The lone Blue and Gold men's athlete in action was Blake Rodriguez, who had a top throw of 47.13m (154-07) in the javelin, good for 20th place overall.

What's Next?: The GSAC Championships run April 27-28 in Santa Barbara and will be hosted by Westmont. The Lion women are set to defend their conference title, while the men finished fifth at last year's event.
