31st and 32nd consecutive regular season matches against GSAC opponents, a streak dating back to 2020.
VU won eight of nine matches by sweep.
No. 2 Vanguard 5, San Diego Christian 0
The Lions won all five matches in straight sets. Bailey Coffin (JR/Tustin, CA) and Madison Arnold (SO/Chatsworth, CA) started the proceedings with a 21-7, 21-5 victory over Cynthia Salas and Natalie Hill.
VU went up 2-0 as the No. 2 pair of Emma Galloway (SO/Del Mar, CA) and Hannah Wilmes (FR/Thornton, CO) took down Eliana Cho and Teresa Ochoa, 21-11, 21-16.
The match-clinching win occurred at the fives, as Ana Broadhead (FR/Nashville, TN) and Chloe Knudson (SO/Coeur D' Alene, ID) earned a 21-17, 21-13 triumph over Brianna Martindale and Anuhea Kaohi.
Wrapping up the match on the final two courts, the Lions got their next point at the No. 3 position when Madi Nash (SR/Tucson, AZ) and Emilee Hall (SR/Redondo Beach, CA) took the first set 21-11, then staved off Kayli Barrera and Megan Flores for the 21-19 set two victory.
Conley Harris (SR/Brea, CA) and Morgan Nash (SR/Tucson, AZ) returned to the win column after two straight defeats last week. The Lion No. 1 pair rolled to a 21-8, 21-12 win over Thea Snider and Katie Call.
No. 2 Vanguard 4, No. 7 Arizona Christian 1
The Lions had a much tougher time in a competitive match with the Firestorm. VU went three sets at one spot on the ladder and lost its only match of the afternoon at the fives.
But VU broke out to a 1-0 lead with Coffin and Arnold posting a 21-17, 21-13 victory over Brianna Beckler and Anna Kate Clark.
After losing the first set, Galloway and Wilmes battled back to defeat Amaya Brown and Haley Brown in three sets, registering a 21-23, 21-14, 15-12 triumph at the twos.
WIth a 2-0 lead in the match, the Lions looked to clinch victory at the fives but the Firestorm pair of Riley Brown and Dyanna Avila had other ideas. The ACU duo knocked off Knudson and Hailey Petersen (SR/Omaha, NE) in a tight match, taking the 21-15, 22-20 decision.
Unbothered by the slight trip up, the Lions earned the third point at the ones as Harris and Nash continued their mastery of GSAC competition with a 21-12, 21-15 victory over Misty McCall and Brianna Boeckman.
The final point came at No. 3 as Nash and Hall downed Sydney Shaw and Katy Shockey, 21-15, 21-17.
Why Is It Important?:Â The Lions began the final GSAC Round staying unbeaten against their conference brethren. They look to finish out the conference schedule unbeaten for a third straight season.
What Was Said?: "We've had to make some adjustments in our lineup and so it was fun to watch several partnerships make some smart strides today," said Head Coach Kris Dorn. "Our second match was purely about playing with the massive wind we had, but the first was strategy and execution."
What's Next?:Â The Lions host a pair of top-10 foes to conclude GSAC Round action on Saturday. VU meets No. 4 OUAZ at 9:00 a.m. and No. 9 Hope International at 2:00 p.m.
