IRVINE, Calif. – The Vanguard beach volleyball team lost 5-0 to Concordia-Irvine in a nonconference road match on Wednesday.
What Happened?: The Lions fell in straight sets at four of the five positions. Vanguard's twos comprised of Morgan Nash (JR/Tucson, AZ) and Vashti Elias Romero (JR/Redlands, CA) took Sara Ostojic and Hailee Ryan to three sets before succumbing in a 24-26, 21-19, 15-11 defeat.
Conley Harris (SR/Brea, CA) and Natalie Escher (SR/Redlands, CA) competed at the ones and came up short to Hannah Phair and Vanessa Bernzen, posting a 21-12, 21-18 loss.
The VU duo of Emma Galloway (FR/Del Mar, CA) and Carly McKinney (SR/Mission Viejo, CA) lost a 21-11, 21-17 battle at the threes to Isabella Bush and Ellie Cary.
VU also dropped matches at the fours and the fives. Hally Herder (JR/Highlands Ranch, CO) and Madison Arnold (FR/Chatsworth, CA) put up a strong fight in the first set but could not get past Shannon Evans and Tatum Smith, 21-18, 21-7.
At the fives, Lauren Clifton and Nicole Miller gave the Eagles a 21-14, 21-12 victory over Cambria Fernandez (SR/Northridge, CA) and Chloe Knudson (FR/Coeur D' Alene, ID).
What Was Said?: "After this weekend's monsoon winds it was good to be playing with high-level, controlled touches today against a strong opponent," said Head Coach Kris Dorn. "We learned a lot today on how we should be improving on our way to a Championship season. Iron sharpens iron and today we were sharpened."
What's Next?: The Lions stick to the road for a doubleheader this Saturday in Northridge. They play host CSUN at 11:00 a.m. and Cal State Los Angeles at 2:00 p.m.
