HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – The No. 1-ranked Vanguard beach volleyball team defeated Hope International, 5-0, on Wednesday at the Brookhurst and PCH Courts.
What Happened?: The Lions did not lose a set and allowed single-digit points in half of the 10 total sets played. VU moved to 10-4 overall and 8-0 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
The most dominating performance came at the twos where Morgan Nash (JR/Tucson, AZ) and Vashti Elias Romero (JR/Redlands, CA) rolled to a 21-9, 21-6 victory over Natalie Hadder and Hailee McNamee. Conley Harris (SR/Brea, CA) and Natalie Escher (SR/Redlands, CA) also earned a commanding 21-12, 21-9 win against Candice Palmer and Stephanie Perez at the ones.
At the threes, Carly McKinney (SR/Mission Viejo, CA) and Emma Galloway (FR/Del Mar, CA) continued their strong season, downing their Royals counterparts 21-8, 21-12.
Chloe Knudson (FR/Coeur D' Alene, ID) and Cambria Fernandez (SR/Northridge, CA) earned a solid 21-13, 21-9 triumph at the fives, while Hally Herder (JR/Highlands Ranch, CO) and Madison Arnold (FR/Chatsworth, CA) were 21-11, 21-13 winners at the fours.
Why Is It Important?: The win kicks off a stretch of three matches in three days for the Lions.
What Was Said?: "Such a beautiful day to compete," said Head Coach Kris Dorn. "Calm, cool and composed were the key words today. Even when it was point for point our ladies prevailed with solid fundamentals and partnership."
What's Next?: Vanguard heads further south for a road match against No. 5 Saint Katherine on Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
