Costa Mesa -- The Vanguard Lions golf program hosted Hope International Friday at Costa Mesa Golf Course. The first single-opponent match of the season for the women's team just slipped out of its fingers, as the Royals won 326-327. HIU's Day Martinez had the best score of the event, as she dropped a 76 on the field to take the individual honor.
The par-70 Mesa Linda Course provided the backdrop to the contest, which features a long par-4 first hole, some reachable par-5 holes, and demands some good course management from players as the course meanders across the grounds.
Annabell Le (FR/Aliso Viejo, CA) would lead the team with a score of 81 on the day. Kamryn Keller (JR/Yorba Linda, CA), Brooklyn Motske (SO/Fountain Valley, CA), Makayla Christiansen (SO/Oakdale, CA), and Zoee Lynch (SO/Carlsbad, CA) each posted an 82 on their scorecard. Rachel Chambers (FR/Holtsville, CA) and Shyla Tigilau (FR/Mililani, HI) posted scores of 88, while Anslea Dean (SO/Parker, CO) shot a 91. Kayla Howard (FR/El Centro, CA) rounded things out with a 99.
What's next? The Lions will head out to Arizona for the OUAZ Fall Invitational over September 26-28.
