All-Decade :: Women's Track & Field

The years of 2010-2019 saw a team reach the mountain top and take home a red banner, two individuals win at the national level, the launch of multiple new programs, and the ongoing drive to create world-changing leaders through sports. In all, the Blue and Gold suited up for 3,364 contests, taking home 1,785 victories in the process. They combined to earn 267 All-Conference Awards, 257 GSAC Player of the Week recognitions, 125 NAIA All-American Selections, and 32 Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors.

The past 10 years have produced a tremendous amount of talent for Track & Field including an NAIA National Champion in 2019, the first ever female in school history! With the increase in qualifiers for the NAIA National Championships, GSAC Event Champions, and amount of school records broken, the committee decided to combine the standard 21 events into five total categories.

Multi Events – Alison Drennan

A two-sport star at Vanguard, Drennan captured two GSAC Championships in the Heptathlon and qualified for the NAIA National Championships where she placed ninth overall in 2014. She is the school record holder in the Heptathlon with 4,364 points and was a NAIA Academic All-American in 2014. IN addition, Drennan was 48-11 and was on the women's basketball team who won the 2012-13 GSAC Championship.

Distance – Megan Williams

Already recognized on an All-Decade team for her feats in Cross-Country, Williams once again makes the list as a four-time NAIA All-American. At the NAIA National Championships, she finished in fourth place in 2013 in the Indoor 3,000m race. She is the school record holder in the Indoor Mile with a time of 5:02.77), holds the second best times in program history in the 1000m (2:58.93), 1500m (4:37.17), 3000m (10:03.78), and 5,000m (17:17.36). She was recognized as an NAIA Academic All-American and was awarded Female Athlete of the Year in 2012-13.

Sprints/Hurdles – Kapree Nelson

Nelson was a three-time GSAC Champion in the 400m dash and earned NAIA All-American status in 2014 when she placed sixth in the Indoor Championships. Nelson is the reigning school record holder in the 400m with a mark of 55.39 and is second in Vanguard history in the 200m and 600m with times of 25.11 and 1:36.74, respectively. She was also a member of the relay teams that set School Records in the 4x400m and 4x800m.

Jumps/Vault – Amanda Chan

Another award which was a given for the committee was NAIA National Champion Amanda Chan in the High Jump. In 2019, she won the Red Banner and then came back the next year and was the NAIA National Runner-up. Additionally, she is a two-time GSAC Champion in the High Jump and has earned a pair of All-American platforms. Currently, Chan is the school record holder, a mark she has reset a few times already in her career.

Throws – Lydia Perrigo

A member of the Track & Field time for a short time, she made her presence felt on the leaderboard for multiple events. She won the GSAC Championship in the Shot Put, qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the Indoor Weight Throw and maintains school records in the Shot Put (41'4.25"), Hammer (147'3"), Weight Throw (52'9.5")

Keeping in mind all of the blood, sweat, and tears that student-athletes pour into their sport year-round, a few conditions were created in the selection process. Priority was given to players who were recognized both within the GSAC and the NAIA as well as the role they played on the team during their career. To be eligible a player only needed to compete in one year within the decade, but all of the student-athletes' accomplishments would be applied to their candidacy - even if some of those honors and statistics happened prior to 2010.
