HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Vanguard University (2-5) battled against The Master's University (2-3) and took the win 3-2. The Lions were able to end their losing streak during the first matchup against the Mustangs in the tournament-style weekend, which also happened to be the first contest they played in the newly formed Golden State Athletic Conference for beach volleyball.

Kolby Bird (JR/San Diego, CA) and Kelli Dowell (SR/Redlands, CA) opened up the matchup for the Pride and won 21-18 and 21-19. The Mustangs earned the second pairing victory over Elaina Johnson and Karly Cantu (SR/Spokane, WA) 21-18, 12-21, and 13-15. The junior class dream team Karli Burk (JR/Yucaipa, CA) and Mackenzie Mitchell (JR/Costa Mesa, CA) took the courts next and secured a win in a decisive three-set match 21-10, 12-21, and 15-10.
TMU stole the next victory in another three-set matchup against Gabby Morrison (JR/Paso Robles, CA) and Conley Harris (SO/Brea, CA) 21-14, 17-21, 9-15. Kayla Tinker (SR/San Clemente, CA) and Shay Piper (JR/Elizabeth, CO) earned close two-set win 22-20 and 21-18. The Freshmen dynamic duo rounded out the afternoon for the Pride and finished with a win in two sets 21-12 and 21-19.
