HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – The Lions (11-10) played their final game of the season, coinciding with their first ever Senior Day Celebration prior to the first flight, honoring the program's first two departures. Dani Erdelatz (JR/Stockton, CA) and Charity Dennis (SR/Cypress, CA), foundational members of the program, both departed with two set victories. Vanguard defeated Cal State Los Angeles 3-2, bringing the Blue and Gold to 3-0 all-time against the Golden Eagles.
The action got started on the sand with Eliana Johnson (SO/Scottsdale, AZ) and Dennis facing Victoria Duarte and Jeshmaria Suarez with the Lions winning in straight sets 21-6, 21-13. CSULA got their first win of the day when Jessica Kaeka and Janessa Mata defeated Karly Cantu (JR/Spokane, WA) and Gabby Morrison (SO/Paso Robles, CA) on court two by scores of 20-22, 21-19, 20-18. During the second round of play, Kayla Darm (FR/San Juan Capistrano, CA) and Mackenzie Mitchell (SO/Costa Mesa, CA) won in identical 21-13 sets over Caitlyn Bato and Adriana Maldonado as the fifth flight. The Pride clinched the victory when Brooke Wilsman (SR/Lakeland, FL) and Erdelatz won by 21-11, 21-15 counts over Sifa Faaiu and Daisy Crenshaw in the third pairings. With the win in hand, Kelli Dowell (SR/Redlands, CA) and Hannah Holder (JR/Irvine, CA) pushed the Golden Eagles the distance in a battle of the ones. Karla Santos and Alejandra Negron won by 21-10, 21-23, 15-12 scores.
