COSTA MESA, Calif. - Vanguard battled Bethesda University of California on Tuesday afternoon for their third matchup of the year. Vanguard's offense picked up a total of 20 hits and 10 RBI to win the game 11-0 and improve to 29-13 overall.

Sam Neufeld (SR/Indio, CA) lead offense to a run early in the first inning after he doubled into center field and a single from Omar Ortiz (JR/Las Vegas, NV) brought him home. Caleb Squire (SR/Arvada, CO) then doubled down the right field line and Ortiz scored to tally the Lion's 2-0 lead in the first inning. Landon Riker (JR/Marysville, WA) stepped up in the bottom of the third to slam a home run over the left field fence and lengthen Vanguard's lead to three. In the same inning, Ortiz scored on a wild pitch. Julio Rivera (SR/Puerto Rico), Grady Conner (JR/Costa Mesa, CA) and Diego Altamirano (FR/Bothell, WA) each earned a hit in the fifth to add three more runs for Vanguard. In the seventh, with two down, Tyler McFarland and Luke Woods (FR/Cave Creek, AZ) strung together a duo of singles. Zach Nelson (SR/Clovis, CA) and Isaiah Lee (FR/Santa Ana, CA)'s hits were good for RBIs and a 10-0 difference. The final Lion run came in the seventh behind hits from Josh Weeks (JR/Murrieta, CA), McFarland and Woods. The eighth inning was highlighted by a base hit from pitcher Tyler Steele (SR/Kingsburg, CA) to lead off the inning. Sergio Montano (JR/El Centro, CA) pitched the final inning to close out the 11-0 victory for the Lions. 

"I went up there and was just having fun," Tyler Steele said."It's crazy cause All I have done for four years is pitch and the one time you get the opportunity it's one of those cool moments you get to say you hit and pitch."
