COSTA MESA, Calif. - After letting a five run lead slip away, the Lions had the opportunity to clinch the ball game in the bottom of the 10th against the University of Antelope Valley. With one down, and the bases full, Vanguard called on Isaiah Lee (FR/Santa Ana, CA). Lee, who hadn't appeared all game, knocked a walk-off single to snag a 8-7 extra inning win. The victory over the Pioneers places VU at 19-9 overall and 8-4 in GSAC play. 

Vanguard 8, University of Antelope Valley 7

After a Pioneer was hit and two were walked, UAV struck on a sacrifice fly to take the lead in the top of the fourth inning. The Pioneers didn't hold their lead long. With one out in the bottom of the inning, Joe Johnson (SO/Medford, OR) singled and Omar Ortiz (JR/Las Vegas, NV) doubled to advance Johnson to third. Johnson came home on a passed ball from the Pioneers to tie the game. Sam Neufeld (SR/Indio, CA) then singled up the middle to move Ortiz home and Julio Rivera (SR/Puerto Rico) followed with a walked. Chad Sutton (SO/Scottsdale, AZ) earned two RBI with a double that put Vanguard on top 4-1.

After a few scoreless at bats, Max Mahon hit his fourth homer of the year to post two runs for the Lions in the bottom of the eighth inning. Although Vanguard possessed a 7-2 lead going into the top of the ninth, the Pioneers posted five runs to tie up the game and force extra innings. With one out in the bottom of 10, Mahon hit a double and Elijah Weeks (FR/Murrieta, CA) came in to run for him. Neufeld nabbed a single to put two runners on before Sutton was intentionally walked. Lee hit the walk off single to claim the 8-7 victory.
